Beetle Attack

Typical infestations found are Common Furniture and Deathwatch beetle.

Common Furniture beetle usually attacks sapwood in dry conditions and can be a long-term problem. Identification is granular ‘lemon shaped’ pellets in the frass.

Deathwatch beetle attacks both sapwood and heartwood of decaying timber and is usually associated with moisture ingress. Identification is by disc shaped pellets.

Treatment of reasonably sound timbers can be by insecticide, but surface treatment does not guarantee adequate protection against any infestation.

Decadet micro-bore probing can detect the extent of any internal deterioration of a section. From analysis of the section the general strength of the member can be determined.
