Dampness

The presence of dampness within a historic building can cause serious maintenance issues and unexpected costs.

Periodic checks should be carried out to all roof coverings, valleys, guttering systems and external wall fabric.

Where rising damp moisture evaporates on the surface of an internal wall, nitrates and/or chlorates are deposited.

Undisturbed surfaces can be analysed, provided that they have not been cleaned.

Decadets‘ on-site chemical analysis can detect the presence of nitrates or chloride to determine if the ingress is from rising damp or water ingress.
